What is a good engagement rate on YouTube?

Engagement rate measures how actively viewers respond to a video: likes and comments divided by views. Unlike raw views, it does not reward clickbait — it shows whether the content actually landed. Benchmarks vary by niche and channel size, but these ranges hold for most of YouTube:

Engagement rateVerdictWhat it usually means
Below 1%LowContent reaches viewers but does not move them to act
1–3%TypicalThe normal range for most established channels
3–6%GoodAudience is clearly connected to the content
Above 6%ExcellentCommon for smaller channels with tight communities

Shorts typically run higher than long-form; smaller channels higher than large ones.

How to use it

Compare your last 10 videos against each other rather than against a global average: the outliers inside your own channel tell you which topics and hooks your audience actually rewards. To do that across a whole channel — yours or a competitor's — in one run, Younalyse does it automatically, including AI analysis of what the comments are asking for.
